How to boost your confidence one outfit at a time:
Feeling confident in what you wear is more than just about fashion; there’s an art to it. As a Personal Stylist, based in Nottinghamshire, it’s my job to help you look and feel incredible every single day. Having confidence in what you wear is about self-expression, comfort, and presenting the best version of yourself to the world.
We all want that outfit that makes us feel fabulous, that receives endless compliments from strangers don’t we? Sadly this doesn’t happen by chance….
So here are my five practical tips I hope you will love and that will help you boost your confidence through dressing, so you can feel fabulous every day. One outfit at a time….
Know your best colours to wear…..
Knowing which colours suit you can make a significant difference in how you feel and look, ultimately giving you an injection of confidence. Colours that complement your skin tone, hair colour, and eye colour can make you appear more healthy and vibrant giving you that natural glow. Who doesn’t want that? To discover your perfect palette, start by analysing your skin tone to determine whether you have warm (reds, oranges and yellows), cool (blues, greens and purples), or neutral undertones. When Did You Last Get Measured?
This is a question I ask all my clients and they are shocked when they have to reveal the answer,’ Ummmmmm over 10 years ago’ was a comment from a recent client. Hence an appointment was made swiftly to the lingerie department. , The right underwear serves as the foundation for comfort and the perfect fit of your clothes while ill-fitting bras or underwear can lead to discomfort and an unflattering silhouette. Please regularly get measured for your bra size, as body changes can alter your fit over time. Invest in high-quality underwear that provides support and comfort. Please note – you do not need lots of brightly coloured bras – nude and black are my go tos.
Plan ahead what to wear….
Having a clear idea of what to wear for different occasions can significantly reduce stress and overwhelm. Be more Beckham (who chooses his outfits 7 days in advance). Being appropriately dressed for weddings, conferences, or networking events makes you feel prepared and self-assured. To plan your outfits effectively, start by researching the dress code, weather and expectations for the event. When in doubt, it's better to be slightly overdressed than underdressed. Lay out your outfit a day in advance to save time and always try on your outfit beforehand to check the fit and make any necessary adjustments.
….then shop your wardrobe
Regularly go through your wardrobe to declutter and remove items you no longer wear or that don't fit. Organise your clothes in a way that makes it easy to see all your options, such as by colour or category. As a Personal Stylist this is something I love to do. Experiment with different combinations to create new looks from existing pieces and use accessories to transform basic outfits. For style inspiration use Pinterest when you are feeling uninspired or in a style rut and save any images you love to your camera roll.
Shop with intent - no more impulsive buys!
Impulsive buying often leads to a cluttered wardrobe filled with items that don't fit your style or lifestyle or shape. Before shopping, create a list of items you need to avoid those impulsive purchases that are left unworn still with tags on. Hands up who is guilty of having unworn items in their wardrobe? Make a list of key items missing from your wardrobe, focus on quality over quantity by investing in high-quality pieces that will last longer and look better. Choose items that can be styled in multiple ways and fit various occasions. This will help you to build a wardrobe that you love, one that reflects your personality and lifestyle, making you feel more confident in your clothes.
Boosting your confidence through dressing is about making thoughtful choices that reflect your style, personality and lifestyle. By focusing on wearing your best colours, choosing the right underwear, planning your outfits, shopping your wardrobe, and shopping with intent, you can achieve a huge transformation in both your style
and self-esteem.
These top tips will not only enhance your appearance but also boost your confidence too.
